Margazhi
The month of Margazhi (Dec. 16 – Jan 14) – is Sri Krishna’s favorite month. Of the entire year, this month is celebrated with bhajans, recitations, and performances in just about all temples and music academies (Carnatic, instrumental, vocal, dance – Bharathanatyam, etc.). Of particular note is the Marghazi Festival in Chennai in which hundreds of performers gather every year from all over India.Most South Indians (in particular especially Tamilans), make it a point to wake up extra early in each of the 30 days and do extended puja (generally reciting Sri Andal’s Thiruppaavai (bhakti poetry dedicated to Sri Krishna) – consisting of 30 paasurams – one for each day).
