Dung Beetles

As soon as a dung beetle has finished rolling a ball of dung it flees – the trajectory is in a straight line on moonlit nights, but erratic when cloudy sky.

“To test whether the light of the moon was guiding the insects, the scientists placed a polarizing filter over ball-rolling beetles, which altered the light’s polarization by 90 degrees. Under the filter, the creatures made right-angled turns, suggesting they orient themselves according to the polarization of the moon’s light, which is a million times dimmer than that of the sun.”

Besides it sounding interesting, there is a message. With help of modern technology lot of new findings are emerging that would have been dismissed as superstition just 20 years ago – effect of moonlight, moons pull, earths magnetic field, solar flares, etc. on behavior, serotonin levels, immune system, headaches,… My point? To keep an open mind and investigate our ancient scientific literature as records of scientific/yogic observation, not as superstition, and we may find that we can confirm a great majority of it with the aid of todays science and technology.

“Thread Crapping” occurs when a person comes into a thread and posts something contrary to the spirit/intent of the thread, often derailing the discussion or turning it into an argument. For example, coming into a thread about “The Greatest Beatles Album” and posting “The Beatles were overrated” is a thread crap. Another example: In a thread titled “I love my new Apple Macintosh!”, someone posting “PCs are better and cheaper” is a thread crap.
